ABOUT US

Ship Road in Snow

The Council is democratically elected to serve the local area of Thurnham, Glasson Dock and Stodday. Your Council members were all elected to serve for four years at the last election in May 2020. Three more Councillors were co-opted onto the Council in October 2020.

The Council exists to protect the interests of our local community and can provide local services, either directly, or in support of Lancaster City Council and/or Lancashire County Council. The Council has a statutory right to comment on all planning applications within our boundaries, however, the decision rests with the principle planning authority, Lancaster City Council. Planning applications are considered at Council meetings. Paper copies of planning applications are not available but they can be viewed on-line here by simply entering the application number or searching the address. You can also view planning decisions, comment on applications, make and submit an application of your own.

The Council employs a Lengthsman to provide grounds maintenance and general work and other services, that will help to maintain and improve the local area. The Lengthman's activities will be monitored by an appointed Councillor who will report to the Clerk and members of the Council at each meeting.

The Parish Council works on your behalf. Why not come along to a Parish Council Meeting on the first Monday of every month (second Monday if there is a Bank Holiday). We do not have a meeting in August. All meetings are via remote Zoom meeting during the Coronovirus Pandemic.

All meetings are normally held at Glasson Dock Village Hall, commencing at 7.30 pm. If you have anything to raise with the Parish Council, This can be done at the start of the meeting or via the contact form on the home page.

We hope to see you there.
